Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have officially brought domestic wicketkeeper-batsman Luvnith Sisodia into their squad as an injury replacement for Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana.
Pathirana, who was secured by the franchise for a record-breaking sum of 18 crore Indian Rupees (INR) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, was ruled out of the remainder of the 2026 campaign after sustaining a hamstring injury. Facing a critical deficit in their specialized wicketkeeping department, the KKR management executed a strategic pivot, choosing to recruit a domestic stumper rather than direct structural coverage for their bowling department.
Luvnith Sisodia joins the franchise at his baseline valuation of 30 lakh INR. While Sisodia was a member of the Kolkata roster during the 2025 season and previously held a contract with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he has yet to make his formal on-field debut in the IPL tournament.
The financial values and statistical tracking for the affected players are detailed in the table below:
| Player Profile | Squad Allocation & Status | Valuation (INR) | Career & Injury Progression Metrics |
| Matheesha Pathirana | Outgoing / Fast Bowler | 18 Crore | Bowled 8 deliveries in 2026 before severe hamstring tear. |
| Angkrish Raghuvanshi | Sidelined / Primary Stumper | N/A | Suffered concussion and fractured fingers against Mumbai. |
| Luvnith Sisodia | Incoming / Wicketkeeper-Batsman | 30 Lakh | 15 Domestic T20 matches; 124 career runs; 127.83 strike rate. |
| Tejaswi Dahiya | Active / Starting Wicketkeeper | N/A | Promoted to starting eleven; previously lacked bench backup. |
Pathirana’s availability throughout the 2026 season was severely restricted by successive physical complications. His arrival at the tournament was initially delayed due to a late No Objection Certificate (NOC) clearance from the Sri Lanka Cricket board, caused by an injury sustained during the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. As a result, the bowler missed KKR’s first four fixtures.
After an extended period on the bench, Pathirana made his debut appearance as an “Impact Player” against Gujarat Titans. However, after delivering only eight balls, he suffered a hamstring tear that forced him off the field and permanently ended his tournament campaign.
The decision to choose a batsman over a replacement bowler stems from injuries within KKR’s wicketkeeping ranks. The franchise’s primary wicketkeeper, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, was previously ruled out of the IPL after suffering a concussion and finger fractures while attempting to take a catch against Mumbai Indians. While Tejaswi Dahiya took over the wicketkeeping duties, the team was left without any reserve back-up for the position, prompting the signing of Sisodia.
This squad adjustment comes at a critical juncture for KKR. The franchise is scheduled to play its final and decisive group-stage fixture against Delhi Capitals at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The match serves as a must-win encounter for Kolkata Knight Riders to secure their qualification for the upcoming IPL playoff stages.
