The body of a fertiliser trader who had been missing for two days has been recovered from a wetland area in Chandpur’s Kachua upazila, prompting calls for a thorough investigation and justice from both family members and fellow traders.
The deceased, Nurul Islam, 70, was a resident of Tulpai village under Kachua upazila. According to family members, he left home on Friday morning with the intention of opening his fertiliser shop at Kachua Bazaar. However, he failed to return home and could not be contacted, raising concern among relatives.
After repeated attempts to locate him proved unsuccessful, the family filed a General Diary (GD) with Kachua Police Station. The report initiated a search effort and notifications were sent to police stations across the country regarding the missing trader.
Nurul Islam’s youngest son, Chanaullah, said he went to his father’s shop on Friday afternoon and found it closed. When he spoke to neighbouring shopkeepers, they reportedly informed him that Nurul Islam had left earlier in the day after saying he was feeling unwell.
The family then searched for him at relatives’ homes and other possible locations but found no trace of him. Their concerns deepened as hours turned into days without any information regarding his whereabouts.
A breakthrough came on Saturday night when Kachua Police Station informed the family that an unidentified body had been recovered from a wetland beside the eastern side of the Srinibas Purba Para highway area in Sadar Dakshin upazila of Cumilla district. Family members subsequently travelled to the location and identified the deceased as Nurul Islam.
