Police have recovered the partially burnt body of a missing housewife from a roadside in the Haripur Upazila of Thakurgaon district. The deceased has been identified as Nasima Akhter, aged 36, who was a mother of three children and the wife of Abdullah, a resident of Hosengaon village in Ranisankail Upazila. The body was discovered by local residents on Monday morning in Fazilpur village.
According to police and family sources, Nasima Akhter travelled to Mahendragaon village in Haripur Upazila on Sunday to visit a relative. She was accompanied by two of her children, a son and a daughter. At around evening on the same day, she left the relative’s residence alone but failed to return. Her family members lost contact with her following her departure from the house.
At approximately 08:00 BST on Monday, several local residents spotted a woman’s body lying beside a road in Fazilpur village, which is situated roughly four kilometres away from the relative’s residence in Mahendragaon. Upon receiving the information, family members arrived at the location and formally identified the body as that of Nasima Akhter.

Following the initial discovery, a team from the Haripur Upazila Police arrived at the scene. At around noon, officers recovered the body and subsequently transported it to the Thakurgaon General Hospital morgue for a comprehensive post-mortem examination.
Inspector Shariful Islam of the Haripur Police Station reported that the initial inspection revealed distinct burn marks covering one side of the victim’s face and parts of her back. The inspector stated that preliminary indicators suggest the perpetrators may have attempted to burn the body after committing a homicide in an effort to conceal the crime or the victim’s identity.
The police department has confirmed that the precise cause of death will only be verified once the official post-mortem report is released. Furthermore, medical examiners will investigate whether any sexual assault occurred prior to the victim’s death. Law enforcement authorities are currently preparing to file a formal case, and the investigation remains active to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
