A tragic road traffic accident on the busy Dhaka-Tangail highway has resulted in the immediate death of a 32-year-old motorcyclist. The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the Shubhullya area, which is situated within the jurisdiction of the Mirzapur sub-district (upazila) in the Tangail district of Bangladesh. The deceased man has been identified by local authorities as Mehedi Hasan.
The emergency services were alerted shortly after the collision, but medical personnel could only confirm that the victim had suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The incident has caused significant concern among local commuters regarding the general safety of motorists on this major national transport arterial route, which sees heavy commercial traffic daily.
Mehedi Hasan was a professional corporate employee who worked within the marketing department of Nasir Group, a well-known commercial conglomerate operating nationwide. His primary professional responsibilities involved the strategic promotion and market expansion of the company’s various industrial products and services across different regional markets.
According to official administrative and police records, his ancestral family home was located in the western district of Kushtia. On the day of the incident, Hasan was commuting from his family home on his personal motorcycle, travelling along the highway towards his primary workplace based in the capital city of Dhaka after the conclusion of a temporary break.
The specific details surrounding the accident were provided by Sub-Inspector (SI) Shah Alam, an official representing the Gorai Highway Police Station. According to the preliminary police investigation, Hasan was operating his motorcycle along the Dhaka-bound lane of the dual carriageway. Whilst he was navigating the route through the Shubhullya area of Mirzapur, a high-speed passenger coach belonging to a transport company operating under the name Sonali Paribahan struck his vehicle from behind.
The force of the rear-end impact from the heavy passenger vehicle caused severe structural damage to the motorcycle and inflicted catastrophic, fatal injuries upon Hasan. Due to the severe nature of the physical trauma sustained during the crash, he succumbed to his injuries instantly at the exact point of impact on the asphalt before any emergency medical treatment could be administered by arriving first responders.
Following the collision, the driver of the speeding passenger coach completely abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot to avoid immediate detention by the gathering public or the arriving law enforcement authorities. Personnel from the Gorai Highway Police Station arrived promptly at the crash site to secure the area, manage the resulting traffic congestion on the highway, and initiate formal procedural actions.
The police officers successfully seized the abandoned Sonali Paribahan passenger bus, taking the commercial vehicle into state custody as crucial material evidence for the ongoing judicial investigation. The authorities have launched an active search operation across the district to locate and arrest the absconding driver, who is accused of driving in an entirely reckless and dangerous manner.
Following the completion of all mandatory legal procedures, forensic examinations, and official administrative paperwork, the body of Mehedi Hasan was officially handed over by the police to his grieving family members for transport back to his home district for his final rites. Sub-Inspector Shah Alam confirmed that the highway police are in the final stages of preparing a formal criminal case, and the official filing of legal charges regarding the reckless driving and subsequent death is currently underway.
