The local police in Chuadanga have recovered the hanging body of a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member from a battalion barracks. The recovery was made on Saturday afternoon from the sixth floor of a residential building within the Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) headquarters, located in Jafarpur under the Sadar Upazila.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Azizur Rahman, a resident of Nityanandapur village in the Harinakundu Upazila of Jhenaidah district. He held the rank of Naik within the 6 BGB battalion.
According to official sources from the BGB and the Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, Azizur Rahman resided in a barrack located within a six-storey residential building inside the Jafarpur battalion complex. Whilst BGB personnel occupied the first five storeys of the structure, the sixth floor remained vacant.
It is officially suspected that Azizur Rahman committed suicide during Friday night, without the knowledge of his colleagues. The matter came to light on Saturday morning, prompting senior officials of the 6 BGB to secure the location immediately. Following notification of the incident, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, Md. Mizanur Rahman, alongside Inspector (Investigation) Shahidul Islam, visited the scene to conduct a preliminary inquiry.
During the afternoon, an official inquest report (Surathal) was prepared in the presence of Aminul Islam, the Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Chuadanga Sadar Upazila. Following the completion of the legal inquest, the body was transported to the morgue at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital for a compulsory post-mortem examination. Once the medical autopsies were completed, the body was dispatched to the deceased’s paternal village in Jhenaidah.
The Commanding Officer of Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB), Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Hasan, confirmed the recovery of the hanging body. He stated that Azizur Rahman had been suffering from psychological issues for some time prior to the incident.
The Chuadanga Sadar Police Station OC, Md. Mizanur Rahman, verified that the body had been retrieved and examined. He stated that whilst the initial evidence points towards suicide, the exact and definitive cause of death will only be established upon receiving the formal post-mortem analysis report.
