The Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University, Professor Dr Md Faridul Islam, is scheduled to depart Bangladesh for a two-week institutional visit to Australia. The official delegation, which comprises the vice-chancellors of six public universities from Bangladesh, is set to leave Dhaka at midnight on Friday, 12 June.
The primary objectives of this international visit are to study best practices in higher education management, provide the participating academic leaders with practical insights, and enhance the institutional capacity of public universities across Bangladesh.
During the fourteen-day tour, Professor Islam and the rest of the Bangladeshi delegation will engage with several prominent higher education institutions in Australia. The itinerary includes structured visits, workshops, and group discussions at multiple high-ranking Australian institutions.
Specifically, the itinerary includes engagements at the University of Melbourne, Monash University, Griffith University, the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and the University of Wollongong, alongside other relevant educational bodies.
Throughout these academic sessions, the Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University will present views and participate in exchange programmes. The discussions will center on the governance of higher education in Australia, the implementation of optimal institutional practices, and methods directly relevant to advancing the quality of tertiary education in Bangladesh.
Commenting on the significance of the overseas trip, Professor Dr Md Faridul Islam stated that the knowledge and practical insight acquired from the Australian higher education system will be utilized to benefit his home institution. He emphasized that the experience will help make the administrative and academic framework of Rajshahi University more modern, inclusive, and aligned with international standards.
Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor noted that acquiring such international exposure is essential for the broader tertiary education sector of Bangladesh. He asserted that these academic exchanges play an important role in rendering the higher education system more dynamic, well-governed, and globally competitive.
The universities selected for the delegation’s itinerary represent major components of the Australian higher education sector. The University of Melbourne and the University of New South Wales are prominent members of the Group of Eight (Go8), a coalition of Australia’s leading research-intensive universities.
Monash University, located in Melbourne, Victoria, is noted for its extensive global network and large student population, whilst the University of Wollongong in New South Wales and Griffith University in Queensland are recognized for their research outputs and international partnerships.
Rajshahi University, established in 1953 in Rajshahi, is the second-oldest public university in Bangladesh. In the country’s public higher education structure, universities operate as autonomous statutory bodies heavily funded by the state via the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, which functions under the Ministry of Education.
The administration of these public institutions faces ongoing structural challenges, making international capacity-building initiatives a utilized method for policy reforms. Such collaborative visits are designed to align domestic educational frameworks with global academic management systems.
