The Australian national cricket team is progressing steadily towards their target against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. In a bid to avoid a series whitewash, Australia must successfully chase down a target of 275 runs in 50 overs, after Bangladesh posted a total of 274 for five in the first innings.
Young opening batsman Cooper Connolly has played a pivotal role in anchoring the Australian response. Competing in his 12th One Day International (ODI), Connolly has reached his maiden century in the format. At the time of reporting, Australia have reached a score of 187 for the loss of four wickets after 32.2 overs. Connolly is currently at the crease on 104 runs, partnered by Cameron Green, who is unbeaten on 20. Australia require a further 88 runs from 106 deliveries to secure victory.
Earlier on Sunday, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first, but suffered an immediate setback in the opening over. Opener Soumya Sarkar, who had scored 42 runs in the preceding match, was dismissed for just 2 runs. A subsequent 51-run partnership for the second wicket between Tanzid Hasan Tamim and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto helped steady the innings. Tanzid contributed 19 runs before his dismissal, whilst Najmul compiled 24 runs from 50 deliveries.
Following the loss of three wickets for 61 runs, Litton Das and Tawhid Hridoy established a significant fourth-wicket partnership, adding 95 runs from 109 balls. Litton was forced to retire hurt on 58 runs, scored from 78 deliveries with four boundaries and two sixes, with the team score at 153. Hridoy continued to anchor the middle order, scoring 83 runs off 88 balls, including eight boundaries, before falling at 246 for four. Mosaddek Hossain Saikat provided late momentum, remaining unbeaten on 51 from 51 deliveries with five boundaries and a six, as Bangladesh concluded their 50 overs at 274 for five.

| Alex Carey | 8 (16) | 1 x 4 | Caught by Soumya Sarkar | 70/3 |

Australia’s pursuit began rapidly, with the opening pair putting together a 40-run partnership before a double strike from Bangladeshi pacer Shoriful Islam shifted the momentum. Within the space of three deliveries, Shoriful removed Josh Inglis for 21 and clean-bowled Matt Renshaw for a duck. Alex Carey was the next to depart for 8 runs, caught effectively by Soumya Sarkar with the scoreboard at 70.
A partial recovery was staged during a fourth-wicket partnership between Connolly and Marnus Labuschagne, who combined for 64 runs off 77 deliveries. Labuschagne was eventually dismissed for 23 runs from 45 balls at a total of 134. Following his departure, Cameron Green joined Connolly at the crease for the fifth wicket, and the pair have since maintained an ongoing partnership to guide Australia towards the required total.
