The Ad-din Foundation has strongly refuted allegations of attempted financial bribery made by the Health Minister, confirming that it will legally challenge the government’s decision to revoke the license of Ad-din Medical College Hospital. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, 15 June, at the hospital premises in Mgbazar, Dhaka, the Executive Director of Ad-din Foundation, Dr Sheikh Mohiuddin, addressed reporters regarding the recent deaths of six newborn infants and the current operational status of the facility.
Dr Mohiuddin categorically denied any financial misconduct, stating, “We did not chase after the Minister with money.” He further asserted that if the Minister had made such statements regarding the matter, the onus of proof lay entirely on him. He announced that an official appeal against the closure of the hospital would be lodged on Tuesday.
The controversy stems from a critical incident on 27 May, when six newborn babies died under tragic circumstances within a three-hour window—specifically between 6:00 am and 9:00 am—at the post-operative ward located on the second floor of Ad-din Hospital. Following the fatalities, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare immediately constituted an investigation committee on the very same day to determine the cause of death.
On 4 June, the probe committee submitted its official findings to the Ministry. Upon receiving the report, the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Sarder Sakhavat Hossain, announced that the investigation had uncovered evidence of extreme negligence on the part of the hospital authorities. This report served as the primary basis for the subsequent cancellation of the hospital’s operating license.
During Monday’s press briefing, Dr Mohiuddin addressed the specific technical deficiencies highlighted in the government’s deregistration report. He noted that the official report primarily cited issues concerning the hospital’s ventilation infrastructure. In response, the management has initiated a comprehensive overhaul of the facility’s systems.
The specific actions taken by the management and the current state of the facility are outlined in the table below:
| Area of Concern / Operational Metric | Current Status and Measures Implemented |
| Ventilation Infrastructure | The entire hospital ventilation system is undergoing a complete, modern reconstruction. |
| In-house Bakery Operations | The commercial bakery previously operating within the hospital has been completely shut down. |
| Patient Care Status | Multiple critically ill patients are currently admitted and receiving treatment at the facility. |
| Legal Strategy | A formal legal appeal against the license cancellation is scheduled to be filed on Tuesday, 16 June. |
The administrative action follows a public address by the Health and Family Welfare Minister, Sarder Sakhavat Hossain, on Saturday afternoon, 13 June. Speaking at the Monohardi Upazila Parishad auditorium in Narsingdi, the Minister claimed, “Ad-din Hospital moved around with crores of taka, but I have cancelled their license.” He further remarked on the political dimensions of the situation, adding, “On the other hand, Jamaat leaders are speaking in favour of Ad-din today.”
Dr Mohiuddin’s press conference served as a direct rebuttal to these specific assertions, with the foundation choosing to pursue formal legal remedy through the upcoming appeal process while continuing to treat the critical patients currently remaining in their care.
