Raphinha Returns to Brazil Training Before Norway Clash

Brazil have received a timely injury boost ahead of their FIFA World Cup Round of 16 showdown against Norway, with forward Raphinha returning to training after recovering from a hamstring injury that had sidelined him for the team’s previous two matches.

The Barcelona winger resumed partial training with his teammates on Saturday, raising hopes that he could feature in Brazil’s squad for the knockout encounter. Although the 29-year-old is not yet fully fit, head coach Carlo Ancelotti believes he could still make an important contribution if called upon during the match.

Brazil face Norway on Sunday in one of the most eagerly anticipated fixtures of the Round of 16, with a place in the World Cup quarter-finals at stake. The South American giants will be aiming to continue their pursuit of a record-extending sixth world title, while Norway, led by prolific striker Erling Haaland, are seeking to prolong what has already been an impressive tournament.

Raphinha’s return provides welcome encouragement for the Brazilian camp at a crucial stage of the competition.

The winger sustained a hamstring injury in his right thigh during Brazil’s group-stage victory over Haiti earlier in the tournament. The setback ruled him out of the final group match against Scotland as well as Brazil’s Round of 32 victory over Japan, leaving Ancelotti without one of his most experienced attacking players.

His absence had forced Brazil to adjust their attacking options, but the signs of progress in his recovery have offered fresh optimism ahead of the high-stakes meeting with Norway.

Speaking at Saturday’s pre-match press conference, Ancelotti said Raphinha was recovering well and could be available from the bench, even if he was not yet ready to complete a full 90 minutes.

“Raphinha is recovering very well,” the Italian coach said. “He is not 100 per cent fit yet, but he is in a condition to be on the bench. If necessary, he can play for a few minutes and help the team at certain moments of the match.”

Ancelotti also underlined the importance of the winger to Brazil’s plans.

“He is recovering quickly, and that is very good news for us because Raphinha is a very important player for this team,” he added.

During Saturday’s training session, Raphinha continued elements of his rehabilitation programme while also taking part in portions of full-team training, a further indication that his recovery is progressing as expected. While Brazil’s medical staff are unlikely to risk him from the start, his inclusion among the substitutes now appears increasingly likely.

That could prove significant against a well-organised Norwegian side expected to defend compactly before looking to exploit the pace and finishing ability of Haaland on the counter-attack.

Analysts believe Raphinha’s experience, creativity and ability to unlock tightly packed defences could make him a valuable option later in the match, particularly if Brazil need greater attacking impetus in the closing stages. His pace, direct running and ability to deliver dangerous crosses have made him an important component of Brazil’s attacking play in recent years.

Brazil have enjoyed a solid campaign so far, progressing through the knockout rounds while balancing defensive discipline with attacking flair. Yet Norway present a different challenge, combining physical strength with tactical organisation and the goalscoring threat of one of the world’s most prolific strikers.

As a result, squad depth could prove decisive.

Ancelotti is expected to rely on his experienced players to navigate what promises to be a demanding contest, and the potential availability of Raphinha gives him greater flexibility in attack. Even a brief appearance from the Barcelona forward could provide the spark needed to break down Norway’s resilient defence.

Whether Raphinha is introduced as a second-half substitute or held in reserve for a decisive moment, his return represents a significant boost for Brazil. With a place in the quarter-finals on the line, the five-time world champions will hope their influential winger can play a part in keeping their World Cup dream alive.
