KYIV, Ukraine, 6 March 2025 (AFP) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged the international community to maintain relentless pressure on Russia, following a missile strike on a hotel that had been sheltering foreign aid workers.
Zelensky revealed that just before the attack, volunteers from a humanitarian organisation—including citizens of Ukraine, the United States, and the United Kingdom—had checked into the hotel. Fortunately, they survived the strike.
“There must be no pause in the pressure on Russia to stop this war and terror against life,” he declared in a social media post.
The missile attack is the latest in a series of Russian strikes targeting civilian infrastructure, heightening concerns over the safety of humanitarian workers operating in Ukraine.
Additional Context:
Since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has intensified its missile and drone attacks on cities across the country, often hitting residential areas, energy facilities, and aid centres. Western nations have responded with sanctions and military aid to Kyiv, but Zelensky continues to push for stronger measures, including increased arms deliveries and tougher economic restrictions on Moscow. The incident underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis and the risks faced by international volunteers working in conflict zones.
