Gaza Civil Defence Reports 14 Killed in Israeli Strikes Since Midnight

GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories, 25th March 2025 (BSS/AFP) – Gaza’s civil defence reported on Tuesday that 14 people had been killed since midnight in Israeli airstrikes on the war-torn Palestinian enclave, marking one week since Israel resumed its offensive.

Spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that Israeli warplanes had launched over 20 strikes across Gaza, killing at least 14 individuals, including women and children. He confirmed that five people were killed and 12 others wounded in a dawn strike in Gaza City’s Zeitun neighbourhood. Another strike in the southern region of Khan Yunis killed nine people, including a couple and their three children.

The Israeli army confirmed overnight airstrikes on Gaza, stating that they were part of “anti-terrorist” operations.

Israel resumed its intensive airstrikes across Gaza a week ago, followed by ground operations, after negotiations to extend a ceasefire with Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, reached an impasse. The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reported on Monday that 730 people have been killed since Israel’s bombardments resumed on 18th March.

On Monday evening, Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee issued evacuation warnings ahead of a strike in the northern area of Jabalia, urging residents to move south towards known shelters for their safety. Similar warnings were issued for the northern towns of Beit Lahia and Beit Hanun.

Bassal also reported artillery fire in the areas of Beit Hanun, Beit Lahia, and Khan Yunis, with Israeli forces saying they intercepted three “projectiles” launched from Gaza.

The ongoing violence in Gaza has led to significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction, with the situation continuing to escalate as military operations on both sides persist. Humanitarian concerns remain high, with international bodies calling for immediate ceasefire efforts to protect civilian lives.
