England and India are preparing to unveil refreshed line-ups as the fifth and final Test of a thrilling, hard-fought, and often contentious series begins at The Oval on Thursday.
With the series delicately poised at 2-1 in England’s favour, both sides are making strategic adjustments in what promises to be a dramatic conclusion.
England’s Line-up Reshaped After Stokes’ Blow
England have confirmed the absence of captain Ben Stokes, who has been ruled out due to a shoulder injury—a significant setback for the hosts.
Stokes, 34, played a pivotal role in the drawn fourth Test at Old Trafford, where he became only the fourth English player to record a century and a five-wicket haul in the same match. He is currently the leading wicket-taker in the series, with 17 wickets at an average of 25.23, bowling a staggering 140 overs — the highest in any series of his career.

| Gus Atkinson | Fast bowler |
| Jamie Overton | Fast bowler |
Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse are rested, while Liam Dawson is dropped, as England opt not to field a specialist spinner

India, meanwhile, have yet to finalise whether Jasprit Bumrah will play at The Oval.
Due to a back injury sustained earlier this year, Bumrah was slated to appear in only three matches of the series.
The world’s top-ranked Test bowler returned at Old Trafford, bowling 33 taxing overs while conceding 100 runs and claiming two wickets—marking the first time he has given up a century in a Test innings.
“We will make a decision tomorrow,” said Indian captain Shubman Gill on Wednesday. “The wicket looks pretty green, so we’ll see how it goes.”
India are expected to recall Akash Deep, who impressed with 10 wickets in the second Test at Edgbaston before a groin injury sidelined him at Lord’s.
Injury Forces Wicketkeeping Shift
India will also be forced into at least one change, with star batsman and keeper Rishabh Pant ruled out after fracturing his
