Broader Context
This assault follows a Russian strike on a military training facility earlier in the week, where at least three Ukrainian soldiers lost their lives. The continued bombardment is part of Russia’s intensified summer offensive, which has breached previously less-affected areas since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
International Pressure Mounts
As the war enters its fourth year, global pressure on the Kremlin is increasing. US President Donald Trump has reportedly issued a 10-day ultimatum to Moscow, threatening sanctions unless the conflict is halted.
The latest escalation underscores the sustained humanitarian and structural toll on Ukraine’s urban centres and raises alarm about civilian vulnerability amidst the prolonged conflict.
