Biman Bangladesh Airlines has announced the resumption of flights on the Dhaka–Sylhet–Manchester route, which had been suspended for some time. The airline plans to restart services on 1 July 2026, citing growing passenger demand and the need to strengthen connectivity for the Bangladeshi diaspora in the United Kingdom.
Biman’s General Manager for Public Relations, Bosra Islam, issued a statement confirming the decision. He said:
“Following directives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, preparations are underway to resume this route. The service will provide direct travel opportunities for the large number of passengers from the Sylhet region residing in the UK.”
The route’s revival responds to a long-standing demand from expatriates who have sought more convenient access to Bangladesh without multiple stopovers. The Dhaka–Sylhet–Manchester flight will enable a direct connection via Sylhet, offering significant time savings and convenience for passengers.
While the airline has yet to release the complete flight schedule, weekly frequency, and ticketing information, the resumption is expected to facilitate travel for both business and personal purposes, particularly during peak seasons such as summer and religious holidays.
Officials emphasised that the route will not only benefit the Sylheti community in the UK but also promote tourism and business exchanges between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. Biman Bangladesh Airlines has stated that all necessary operational and safety preparations are being finalised in line with civil aviation regulations.
| Route | Departure | Stopover | Arrival | Restart Date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dhaka–Sylhet–Manchester | Dhaka | Sylhet | Manchester, UK | 1 July 2026 |
The resumption of this route aligns with Biman’s broader strategy to expand its international network and meet the needs of the growing expatriate population. The Dhaka–Manchester flight is particularly significant for the Sylheti diaspora, who form one of the largest Bangladeshi communities in the UK, enhancing both cultural and economic links.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has assured prospective passengers that full details on flight timings, weekly schedules, and ticket bookings will be announced shortly, enabling travellers to plan their journeys well in advance.
With the new route, Biman aims to provide efficient, safe, and direct international travel for Bangladeshi passengers while supporting the government’s objective of improving connectivity with the UK.
