The remains of Jamil Ahmed Limon, a 27-year-old Bangladeshi doctoral student murdered in Florida, United States, arrived at his ancestral home in Madarganj, Jamalpur, on Monday. The ambulance carrying his body reached Mahishabathan village in the Karaichara Union at approximately 3:30 pm, where it was met by a large gathering of grieving relatives and local residents.
The aircraft transporting Limon’s remains landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8:47 am on Monday. Following the completion of official airport formalities, the vehicle carrying the deceased departed for Jamalpur at 10:00 am. Upon the ambulance’s arrival in the village, family members and neighbours gathered to pay their final respects.
Jamil’s father, Johurul Haque, was visibly overcome with grief as the body arrived at the family home. Helal Uddin, Jamil’s uncle, expressed the family’s profound distress to the media, stating, “We cannot fathom how to bear this pain as his lifeless body returns home. We demand the death penalty for those responsible for this brutal murder.”
The funeral prayer (Janaza) is scheduled to take place after the Maghrib prayer this evening. Following the service, Limon will be interred in the family graveyard located on the premises of his home.
Jamil Ahmed, also known as Limon, was the elder of two brothers; his younger brother is Jobayer Hossain. Although his ancestral roots are in Madarganj, Jamil grew up and completed his education in the Maona area of Gazipur, where his father, Johurul Haque, has resided for many years due to professional commitments.
At the time of his death, Jamil was a PhD candidate at the University of South Florida (USF), specialising in Geography, Environmental Science, and Policy.

The Hillsboro County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest of Jamil’s roommate, Hisham Abu-Gharbieh, a US citizen, at his family residence. According to law enforcement officials, interrogation of the suspect led to the discovery of Jamil’s dismembered remains on 24 April. The body was found concealed within several black refuse bags in the vicinity of the Howard Frankland Bridge.
The case continues to be processed by US judicial authorities, while the local community in Jamalpur remains in a state of mourning following the return of the deceased student.
