A young man identified as Asadul Islam (Asaduzzaman), a political worker of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was found dead under suspicious and violent circumstances in Kalukhali Upazila, one day after he went missing. Police recovered his bound and burnt body from a paddy field near Surjodia Madrasa in Madapur Union on Monday morning.
According to police and local sources, the 24-year-old, son of Shahjahan Mondal of Billmanushmari village, was also a student of Sonapur Mir Mosharraf Hossain Degree College. He reportedly left his home on Sunday afternoon after Asr prayers and subsequently went missing.
Around 8pm the same day, he contacted his brother-in-law, who is working in Saudi Arabia, requesting an urgent transfer of BDT 5,000. Shortly after this phone call, his mobile phone became switched off, and all communication with his family was lost. His relatives then informed Kalukhali Police Station that night.
On Monday morning at around 8am, local farmers Motale Hossain, Ujjal Hossain, and Robbel Hussain discovered a body in a paddy field near the banks of the Chandana River in Surjodia village. They immediately informed the police and the victim’s family. Officers later confirmed that the body was found with the hands and feet tied, and showed signs of burning and physical assault.
Family members and locals, including his cousin Hafizul Islam and resident Russell Molla, stated that Asaduzzaman was a polite and peaceful young man with no known disputes or enmity in the area. They demanded swift identification and arrest of those responsible for the killing.
Local political representatives of Jamaat-e-Islami also confirmed his involvement with the organisation, describing him as an active worker and a final-year degree student.
