India are set to embark on a landmark and extended cricket tour of New Zealand, marking 100 years of cricketing relations between the two nations. The series, described as one of the most comprehensive bilateral engagements between the sides, will run from 22 October to 1 December and will feature matches across all three international formats.
The touring Indian squad will participate in five Twenty20 Internationals, five One Day Internationals, and two Test matches. The tour is structured to begin with the shortest format, followed by the ODI series, and conclude with the longer red-ball contests. This format is expected to provide a balanced competitive progression while also offering spectators across New Zealand multiple opportunities to witness top-level international cricket.
The opening T20 International will take place in Auckland, setting the tone for a high-intensity start to the series. Following the completion of the white-ball fixtures, attention will shift to the Test series, which will be staged in Wellington and Christchurch respectively. The distribution of matches across major venues reflects both commercial interest and the intent to engage fans nationwide.
New Zealand Cricket’s Chief Commercial Officer, Glenn Critchley, highlighted the significance of the tour, noting that encounters with India consistently draw substantial global attention and strong local interest. He emphasised that the centenary series will not only celebrate sporting competition but also acknowledge the broader cultural and historical ties between the two cricketing nations.
Critchley further remarked on the exceptional popularity of the Indian team among spectators in New Zealand. The presence of globally recognised players such as Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah is expected to enhance the appeal of the series significantly, attracting large crowds and strong broadcast audiences. According to the board, preparations are focused on ensuring a vibrant, festival-like atmosphere throughout the tour.
The series is also being positioned as a celebration of shared cricketing heritage, with organisers planning additional cultural and commemorative elements alongside the matches. These initiatives are intended to underline the long-standing sporting relationship that has developed over a century of competitive cricket between India and New Zealand.
