A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alisan Chowdhury on allegations of embezzling Tk 27 lakh by promising business partnership and issuing death threats. The warrants were issued on 10 November by Afrojah Tania, Judge of Dhaka Executive Magistrate Court-3.

The complainant, Amirul Islam, confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrants on Sunday.

He stated that the accused were scheduled to appear before the court on 10 November, but they did not attend. As a result, the court issued arrest warrants against them. The judge has set 18 December as the date for submission of the arrest execution report.

According to the case statement, using their longstanding acquaintance, Mehazabien lured Amirul Islam with various promises and assured him that he would be made a partner in her family’s new business. Trusting that assurance, he paid Tk 27 lakh in cash and through mobile banking at different times. Later, when Mehazabien and her brother did not take any initiative to start the business, Amirul repeatedly asked for his money, but they kept delaying with excuses.

The statement further mentions that on 11 February, when he demanded the owed amount, he was asked to come to a restaurant beside Hatirjheel Road on 16 March. When he went there, Mehazabien, her brother and 4–5 unidentified individuals verbally abused him and warned him not to come to their residence again to ask for money. They also threatened to kill him if he appeared near their home.

He was intimidated and threatened with dire consequences. When he went to Vatara Police Station to resolve the matter, the authorities advised him to file a case with the court. Consequently, on 24 March, Amirul filed the case with Dhaka Executive Magistrate Court.

Multiple attempts were made to contact Mehazabien on her phone regarding the case, but she did not respond.
