The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a comprehensive 120-hour weather outlook, forecasting widespread thunderstorms and heavy precipitation across the country. According to the bulletin released at 9:00 am on Wednesday, a trough of low pressure currently extends from West Bengal to the North Bay of Bengal, creating atmospheric instability that is expected to persist for at least five days.
For the initial 72-hour period, meteorological conditions suggest that the majority of the Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions will experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers. These events are likely to be accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds and frequent lightning. Meanwhile, certain areas within the Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions are expected to see more scattered precipitation.
The BMD has specifically warned of “moderately heavy to very heavy” rainfall in isolated pockets of the Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. On 2 May, the scope of the rainfall is expected to broaden further, covering many areas of the Rangpur division alongside the aforementioned regions, while Rajshahi and Khulna continue to experience occasional activity.
The impact of the precipitation on national temperatures will vary over the forecast period. In the first 24 hours, daytime temperatures are expected to decrease slightly, while nocturnal temperatures remain stable. By Friday, a minor dip in night temperatures is anticipated, though daytime conditions will likely remain unchanged. However, the extended five-day outlook suggests a gradual cessation of rainfall towards the end of the period, which will be accompanied by a subsequent rise in mercury levels starting Sunday.
| Date/Period | Primary Affected Regions | Expected Conditions | Temperature Impact |
| First 72 Hours | Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, Sylhet, Chattogram | Heavy to very heavy rain, squally winds | Day temperature slight fall |
| 2 May | Most divisions (including Rangpur) | Widespread thundershowers | Generally unchanged |
| 3 May | Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, Sylhet, Chattogram | Moderate to heavy rainfall | Generally unchanged |
| 4 May | Nationwide | Scattered rain/thundershowers | Night temperature slight fall |
| 5 May (Outlook) | Nationwide | Rain subsiding; clearing skies | Temperatures expected to rise |
In the 24 hours preceding the report, significant rainfall was recorded in several districts. The highest volume of precipitation occurred in Nikli, located in the Kishoreganj district, where 60 mm of rainfall was documented.
The current weather pattern is driven by the interaction of the low-pressure trough and seasonal moisture levels. As the system moves, the BMD continues to monitor the potential for localized flooding or infrastructure disruption caused by very heavy downpours. Residents in the northern and eastern divisions are advised to remain cautious of lightning strikes and temporary gusts associated with these pre-monsoon storm cells. Toward the conclusion of the five-day period, the meteorological department anticipates a shift in the pattern, leading to a drier and warmer phase.
