A violent altercation broke out at a filling station in Sreenagar, Munshiganj, after a dispute over the distribution of octane fuel in bottled containers, leaving at least three people injured. The incident occurred at around 9:00 pm on Wednesday at a local petrol station, where both law enforcement personnel and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members were present to maintain order during fuel dispensing operations.
According to eyewitness accounts, the filling station had been operating under a dual arrangement: fuel was being supplied both directly into motorcycles and into portable bottles for customers. This system reportedly led to long queues and growing frustration among motorcyclists, many of whom complained that they were unable to receive fuel in a timely manner.
Tensions escalated when authorities decided to temporarily suspend the practice of dispensing octane into bottles in order to prioritise fuel delivery directly into motorcycles. Local volunteers assisting at the station began removing bottled fuel containers to enforce the decision. At this point, an individual became agitated and allegedly launched an attack on the volunteers, triggering a sudden escalation into a broader physical confrontation involving multiple people.
Law enforcement officers present at the scene intervened swiftly to bring the situation under control. Police and RAB personnel managed to disperse those involved and prevent further escalation, thereby averting what could have developed into a more serious outbreak of violence.
The injured individuals received first aid treatment locally. Their identities have not yet been formally released, and the extent of their injuries is reported to be non-critical.
Authorities have confirmed that the situation has since returned to normal. The incident has, however, highlighted ongoing tensions at fuel distribution points, particularly where informal practices such as bottling fuel contribute to congestion and public dissatisfaction.
Speaking on the matter, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sreenagar Circle) Md. Anisur Rahman confirmed the incident and stated that the situation is now stable. He also indicated that further review may be conducted to prevent similar disturbances in the future.
