Ashish Kapoor, a familiar face in Indian Hindi television serials, has been arrested over allegations of rape. He was taken into custody from Pune on Wednesday, 3 September.

According to sources, the alleged incident occurred on 11 August during a house party. The victim, a woman, filed a written complaint at the police station accusing Ashish Kapoor of sexual assault. Based on this complaint, the actor was subsequently arrested.

Although the complaint was lodged in mid-August, there was a delay in his arrest. Raja Banthia, a Pune North police officer, explained the reason for this delay:

  • After the complaint, Ashish was reportedly evading authorities.
  • His movements were under surveillance during this period.
  • Initially, he went to Goa and later returned to Pune, where he was finally apprehended by the police.

Police have indicated that the victim’s statement contained inconsistencies:

18 AugustRevised statementClaimed Ashish Kapoor acted alone in the assault

Based on the initial statement, the police registered a gang rape case, though further investigation and Ashish’s interrogation are expected to clarify the details.
