Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim is set to carve his name into cricketing history as the first Bangladeshi to play 100 Test matches. The landmark will be reached on 19 November in Mirpur, during the second Test of the Ireland series.
To honour this extraordinary achievement, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has prepared a special ceremony. Members of Mushfiqur’s family have been invited, and the match day is expected to feature a heartfelt tribute recognising his immense contribution to Bangladesh cricket.
Bangladesh opener Saif Hassan, who is currently enjoying one of the best phases of his career, spoke to the media on Sunday in Mirpur. He praised Mushfiqur not only as a teammate but also as a constant source of motivation.
Saif said:
“Mushfiqur bhai is a massive inspiration for all of us. Wishing him all the best for his 100th Test. I even met him in the gym today. He always encourages the younger players.”
He added that Mushfiqur’s discipline, relentless work ethic and never-ending hunger for improvement have shaped the mindset of many young cricketers.
Saif has been in scintillating touch since the Asia Cup, continuing his form in the Afghanistan series as well. A top-order batsman who can also bowl effectively, Saif has quickly become a valuable multi-dimensional option for Bangladesh.
Speaking about his recent success, Saif said:
“Wherever I’ve been, everyone has supported me. In the camp, I worked closely with Babul sir. In domestic cricket, I trained with Sohel sir. I also spent a month practising under Salahuddin sir. I’ve tried to learn and improve at every step.”
He emphasised staying grounded:
“The biggest thing is to be your own coach. You have to understand your own game. I still have weaknesses, but I try to utilise my strengths. I don’t think about the past or the future — I try to stay present.”
In ICC T20I batting rankings, Saif is now placed 30th, making him the second-highest Bangladeshi batter after Tanzid Tamim, who is ranked 17th.
