Jamil Ahmed Limon, a PhD student at the University of South Florida, and Nahida S Brishti had been missing since 16 April. Their disappearance drew significant concern among members of the Bangladeshi community and university circles.
After eight days of uncertainty, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office confirmed last Friday that Limon’s body had been recovered near the Howard Frankland Bridge in Florida. However, the body of the second missing student, Brishti, has not yet been found.
The case has since developed into a major criminal investigation. Authorities have reportedly uncovered further details after the arrest of Limon’s roommate, Hisham Abugharbieh. Court filings and statements from law enforcement suggest that investigators are treating the case as a serious and highly violent crime.
Although authorities have disclosed parts of the investigation, the full sequence of events surrounding the disappearance and death remains under active review. Investigators continue to search for Brishti while examining evidence connected to the suspect and the timeline of both students’ disappearance.
The incident has drawn attention both in Bangladesh and among Bangladeshi students in the United States, particularly because both victims were pursuing higher education abroad. The University of South Florida community has also been closely following developments in the investigation.
Further updates are expected as the legal proceedings continue and search efforts remain ongoing.
