This Eid marks the cinematic debut of acclaimed singer Masha Islam, who will be gracing the big screen for the first time. She appears in Bonolota Express, a film adaptation of Humayun Ahmed’s celebrated novel Kichu Khon. The movie is directed by Tanin Noor, known for his previous critically praised festival film projects.
Joining Masha Islam are some of Bangladesh’s most prominent actors, including Mosharraf Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Azmeri Haque Badhon, Zakia Bari Momo, Shariful Raj, Intekhab Dinar, Shyamal Mowla, Sabila Nur, and A. K. Azad Setu. Masha’s addition to this ensemble has heightened anticipation and added fresh appeal to the film.
Speaking about her debut, Masha Islam shared,
“I have always admired Tanin Bhai’s work. After watching his film Utsab, my excitement only grew. When he was working on Bonolota Express, I expressed my wish to contribute behind the scenes. But he insisted, ‘No, I want to see you on screen.’ Soon after, I was invited for an audition. I submitted my video, and finally, the decision was made.”
She further reflected on the significance of portraying a Humayun Ahmed character:
“Playing one of his characters is a great honour. I have received acting offers before, but never felt the inner drive. This time, I decided for myself—I wanted to be part of this film.”
The official trailer was unveiled during a lively Hoichoi Adda event at the Airforce Base Camp in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Thursday evening.
