He is still easily distinguishable in the history of Dhallywood — a star whose unique acting style, charisma, and personality continue to captivate generations of viewers. Within only four years of his career, he became an unforgettable icon. He was none other than film actor Salman Shah.
On the night of September 6, 1996, the popular actor tragically and mysteriously passed away. For years, his death was portrayed as a “suicide.” But almost three decades later, the case has taken a new turn — it is now being treated as a murder case. A 1997 confession by one of the accused has resurfaced, shaking the entire nation.
Rezvi Ahmed Farhad, the 11th accused in the Salman Shah murder case, confessed in his statement under Section 164, saying, “We killed Salman Shah, but we staged it as a suicide.” He claimed that the mastermind behind the murder was Salman Shah’s mother-in-law, Latifa Haque Lucy, who had allegedly paid 1.2 million taka for the killing.
According to Rezvi’s account, on September 5, 1996, the “death deal” was made at a bar in Gulistan. Present there were film villain Don, David, Faruk, Javed, and Rezvi himself. Later, two more men — Sattar and Saju — joined. Faruk reportedly said, “Samira’s mother will pay 1.2 million taka once the job is done.” An advance payment of 600,000 taka was made on the spot.
Following that meeting, the group gathered materials for the murder — a plastic rope, syringe, revolver, and chloroform.
Rezvi further stated that in the early hours of September 6, Don, David, Faruk, and Aziz Mohammad Bhai went to Salman Shah’s residence. The actor was asleep. They first made him unconscious using chloroform. When Salman regained consciousness, a scuffle broke out. Aziz Mohammad Bhai then ordered, “Push the injection.” After being injected, Salman Shah died on the spot.
To make it look like a suicide, the killers hung his body from the ceiling fan. Rezvi claimed that Salman’s wife Samira, her mother Latifa Haque Lucy, and a relative Ruby were also present during the incident.
Nearly 29 years later, the court has officially recognized Salman Shah’s death not as an unnatural death, but as a murder.
In the current case, 11 people have been charged. The prime accused is Salman Shah’s ex-wife, Samira Haque.
The other accused are: Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Lucy, Don, David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby, Abdus Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed Farhad.
Once the reigning superstar of Dhallywood, Salman Shah’s death remains shrouded in mystery — but after decades, a glimmer of hope for justice has finally emerged.
