The Dhallywood cinematic marketplace is poised for a significant commercial expansion as nine feature films are scheduled to debut simultaneously across Bangladesh for the festive season of Eid-ul-Adha. According to official data compiled by the Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association, the coordinated theatrical rollout will span approximately 150 operational screening venues nationwide, encompassing both modern metropolitan multiplexes and traditional regional single-screen halls.
While the high volume of concurrent premieres has generated substantial public interest, industry representatives have urged caution regarding market saturation. Awlad Hossain Ujjal, the President of the Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association, noted that releasing such a high density of projects simultaneously could introduce severe financial risks for producers, potentially fracturing the available audience base and reducing the long-term box office returns of individual titles.
The festive roster presents a diverse selection of genres, ranging from espionage thrillers and musical dramas to government-funded period pieces. Leading the national distribution network is Rockstar, a highly publicised musical drama directed by Azman Russo and starring megastar Shakib Khan. Having successfully secured its regulatory clearance from the censor board, the film has leveraged an aggressive promotional campaign—consisting of tracks, teasers, and animated sequences—to capture approximately 100 of the 150 available cinema halls.
Another major commercial attraction is the spy thriller Masud Rana, directed by Saikat Nasir. Jointly financed and produced by Impress Telefilm and Jaaz Multimedia, the action film stars Russell Rana in the titular role alongside Puja Chery and Syeda Tithi Omony.
Concurrently, director Mezbaur Rahman Sumon, recognized for his critically acclaimed feature Hawa, enters the holiday box office with his new film Roid. The production showcases a prominent ensemble cast featuring Nazifa Tushi, Mostafizur Noor Imran, and veteran actor Gazi Rakayet.
