One of the most cherished romantic songs in the history of Bangladeshi cinema is set to return to the silver screen after more than four decades. The timeless melody Ei Mon Tomake Dilam, first heard in the 1982 film Manosi, is being revived for the forthcoming motion picture Dom. In a remarkable continuation of its legacy, the new version is once again performed by the legendary singer Sabina Yasmin, whose voice defined the original rendition.
The song was re-recorded on Wednesday, 11 March, at a recording studio in the capital. While the updated version preserves the emotional spirit and musical essence of the original composition, it also incorporates a contemporary arrangement and several newly written lyrical passages. The additional lyrics have been penned by Tanmoy Parvez, while the music direction for the new version has been handled by Arafat Mohsin Nidhi. The recording also features young vocalist Momin Biswas, who shares the track with Sabina Yasmin, creating a rare collaboration between a celebrated icon and an emerging singer.
Originally written by the renowned lyricist, composer, producer, and filmmaker Gazi Mazharul Anwar, the song was composed by Anwar Parvez and quickly became a defining romantic number of its era. Over the years, it has remained deeply embedded in the cultural memory of Bangladeshi audiences, symbolising love, nostalgia, and the golden period of the country’s film music.

During the recording session, Sabina Yasmin expressed her delight in revisiting the beloved composition. She remarked that she accepted the project because she genuinely appreciated the new musical interpretation and enjoys working with younger musicians. She also spoke warmly about the performances of actors Afran Nisho and Puja Cherry, who appear in the upcoming film, and wished the entire team success.
Director Redowan Rony explained that the decision to include the classic song was closely linked to the emotional tone of Dom. According to him, the film tells a story rooted in the struggles and determination of ordinary people. The filmmakers therefore sought a song capable of expressing a wide range of emotions, including love, hope, sorrow, and resilience. He noted that Ei Mon Tomake Dilam has long surpassed its identity as merely a film song and has become associated with the collective feelings and memories of the nation.
Before incorporating the song into the new production, the filmmakers received formal permission from the family of Gazi Mazharul Anwar. His son Sarfaraz Anwar and daughter Dithi Anwar attended the recording session and expressed their support for the creative initiative.
Shahriar Shakil, Managing Director of the production company SVF Alpha-i Entertainment, explained that the idea emerged from a desire to celebrate the historic artistic partnership between the late lyricist and Sabina Yasmin. Over his prolific career, Gazi Mazharul Anwar wrote nearly twenty thousand songs, a remarkable number of which were performed by the celebrated singer.
Music director Arafat Mohsin Nidhi described the project as both an honour and a challenge, noting that reinterpreting a classic song requires careful balance between preserving the original spirit and presenting it in a modern style. For young singer Momin Biswas, recording alongside Sabina Yasmin was an unforgettable experience and a long-cherished dream.
The film Dom, carrying the tagline “Until the Last Breath”, is scheduled for release during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival. Produced by SVF Alpha-i Entertainment in collaboration with Chorki, the film has already attracted considerable anticipation among audiences. The screenplay has been written jointly by Redowan Rony, Syed Ahmed Shawki, Al-Amin Hasan Nirjhar, Mohammad Saifullah Riad, and Robiul Alam Robi.
With the return of a legendary voice and the revival of an iconic song, the film’s soundtrack is expected to bridge generations, bringing a beloved melody back to audiences while introducing it to younger listeners for the first time.
