A case has been filed at a police station over the deaths of six newborn babies at Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka, with the complaint citing alleged medical negligence as the cause of death.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of the Ramna Division, Sheikh Jahidul Islam, confirmed the matter on Wednesday night (27 May), stating that the case was lodged by the family of one of the deceased newborns. He said the complaint specifically mentioned negligence leading to the death of the infant.
Earlier, six newborn babies died in the post-delivery ward of Ad-din Medical College Hospital located in Moghbazar, Dhaka. Following the incident, the bodies of the deceased infants were handed over to their respective families.
According to police officials, the families did not request post-mortem examinations for the deceased newborns. The bodies were released after the families submitted written applications and were duly counselled regarding the process.
Relatives of the deceased have alleged that mismanagement in the ward and a lack of proper air conditioning contributed to the incident. These allegations have been included in the broader context of the case filed at the police station.
Police confirmed that the investigation process is underway following the formal complaint. Further legal procedures will be carried out in accordance with standard protocols as the inquiry progresses.
Hospital authorities have not yet issued a detailed public statement addressing the allegations of negligence or the reported conditions in the post-delivery ward at the time of the incident.
The incident occurred in the post-delivery unit of Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar, where the six newborns died under circumstances that prompted immediate concern from family members and subsequent reporting to law enforcement authorities.
Authorities have stated that all procedural steps following the deaths, including documentation and handover of the bodies, were completed in coordination with the families and relevant officials. The case filed by a victim’s family has now formally brought the matter under police investigation.
