The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has officially released its Registered Testing Pool (RTP) for the year 2026, comprising 348 athletes across various sporting disciplines. Among the notable inclusions are two prominent members of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad: all-rounder Axar Patel and explosive young batter Abhishek Sharma.
The RTP is a list of high-priority athletes who are subject to rigorous out-of-competition testing. Under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines, which NADA enforces domestically, these athletes must provide comprehensive “whereabouts” information for every day of the year. This data includes a specific 60-minute window and a precise location where they can be reached for testing.
The primary objective of this system is to facilitate unannounced testing. NADA officials may arrive at a player’s residence or training facility at any time to collect blood or urine samples. Failure to be present at the designated location during the specified window, or neglecting to provide accurate information, results in a “filing failure” or a “missed test.”
Strict disciplinary actions are mandated for non-compliance. If an athlete accumulates three such whereabouts failures within a rolling 12-month period, it is officially classified as an anti-doping rule violation. This can lead to a period of ineligibility or a formal ban from all competitive sports.
The 2026 roster reflects significant updates in the monitoring of Indian cricketers. While Abhishek Sharma and Axar Patel are new entrants, two high-profile names—Shreyas Iyer and Smriti Mandhana—have been omitted from the latest list. However, several other mainstays of the Indian men’s and women’s national teams remain under the agency’s constant surveillance.
| Category | Included Cricketers |
| Men’s Team | Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh, Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, Abhishek Sharma |
| Women’s Team | Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma, Renuka Singh |
The inclusion of Abhishek Sharma follows his rapid rise in the international circuit, particularly after his record-breaking performances in domestic and franchise cricket. Similarly, Axar Patel’s inclusion underscores his status as a multi-format regular for the national side.
NADA’s testing protocols are designed to maintain the integrity of professional sports in India. By monitoring top-tier cricketers, the agency ensures that performance is achieved without the aid of prohibited substances. The process remains a standard requirement for elite athletes globally, ensuring that Indian cricket adheres to international standards of clean sport. For the duration of 2026, the listed players will be required to maintain strict adherence to these reporting protocols to avoid administrative or legal penalties.
