A tragic road accident in the Banani area of the capital resulted in the deaths of two individuals on Thursday, 23 April 2026. The incident occurred approximately at 3:50 pm near the Setu Bhaban building when a passenger bus, belonging to the ‘Bhuiyan Paribahan’ fleet, lost control and mounted the central road reservation (island).
According to official reports from the Banani Police Station, the bus was travelling from Mohakhali towards Uttara. As it approached the Setu Bhaban area, the driver reportedly attempted to avoid a pedestrian who had entered the roadway. This sudden manoeuvre caused the vehicle to veer sharply and crash into the road divider.
At the time of the impact, several workers were engaged in maintenance activities on the central divider. Two of these workers were trapped under the vehicle and died instantly at the scene. Farid Ahmed, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani Police Station, confirmed that the victims were performing their duties on the road divider when the bus struck them.
In addition to the two fatalities, several other individuals sustained injuries during the collision. Assistant Commissioner of the Mohakhali Zone Police, Md. Russel Rana, stated that the bus ended up positioned directly atop the median island. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the location to manage the casualties and oversee the recovery operation.
While the deaths of the two workers have been confirmed, their specific identities—including names and home districts—were not immediately available following the crash. Police officials are currently working with relevant authorities to establish their identities and notify their next of kin.
