The admission test for the Business Studies Unit of Dhaka University’s 2025–26 academic session was held on Saturday in a well-organised and peaceful manner. This test, designed for first-year undergraduate programmes, drew an exceptionally high number of applicants this year, reflecting the ever-increasing competitiveness associated with securing a place at one of the most prestigious public universities in Bangladesh.
In total, 34,062 students sat for the exam, competing for 1,050 available seats under the Business Studies Unit. The examination took place between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm, spanning across Dhaka University’s campus and four other major university centres across the country.
To ensure smooth execution, the university authorities implemented extensive logistical measures. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan, visited the examination centre at the Faculty of Business Studies to oversee the arrangements. He was accompanied by Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Mamun Ahmed, Treasurer Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Professor Mahmud Osman Imam, and Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed.
The test was simultaneously held in five cities: Dhaka University campus, University of Chittagong, University of Rajshahi, Khulna University, and Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur. This decentralisation aims to reduce travel pressure and improve accessibility for candidates from across the country.
Following his inspection, the Vice-Chancellor informed journalists that the examination concluded in a highly disciplined and calm environment. With nearly 33 applicants contesting a single seat, he described the competition as “exceptionally intense”. He further highlighted the need to support students emotionally, urging parents not to impose undue pressure regarding admission outcomes. Admission, he emphasised, does not define a student’s entire life nor their potential for future success. Every student possesses unique strengths, and families should nurture and encourage their individual capabilities.
Among the 1,050 seats, 930 positions are reserved for students from the Business Studies background, 95 seats for Science-stream students, and 25 seats for Humanities students. The number of applicants across different educational streams demonstrates the widespread appeal of the Business Studies Unit. Applications were submitted by 23,022 Business Studies students, 5,148 Science students, and 5,892 Humanities students.
As competition continues to rise each year, the Business Studies Unit remains one of the most sought-after faculties at Dhaka University. Many students regard it as a gateway to high-profile professional fields, including finance, banking, management, and corporate leadership. The high participation rate in this year’s exam confirms the unit’s enduring reputation and its crucial role in shaping future business professionals in Bangladesh.
