Police Recover Missing Man From Drug Rehabilitation Centre

A high-stakes missing person case in the capital’s Kadamtali area has concluded with a surprising twist, debunking allegations of an abduction by security forces. The individual, identified as Washim Ahmed Mukshan, was discovered by police on Tuesday at a drug rehabilitation facility, three days after his wife reported him kidnapped by men posing as law enforcement officers.

The Allegation of Abduction

The saga began in the early hours of Saturday, 3 January 2026. Washim’s wife, Sharmin Akhtar Tumpa, filed a General Diary (GD) at Kadamtali Police Station, claiming that five to six unidentified individuals had entered their rented residence in the Rajabari Ali Bohar area at approximately 5:00 am. According to the complaint, these men identified themselves as members of a law enforcement agency before forcibly taking Washim away.

Given the gravity of the claim involving the alleged misuse of official identities, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) initiated an immediate and rigorous investigation.

Technological Investigation and Discovery

The Kadamtali Thana police deployed several investigative tools, including the analysis of local CCTV footage and advanced digital tracking. On Tuesday, their efforts led them to a rehabilitation centre in the Merajnagar area of Kadamtali. To the officers’ surprise, they found Washim unharmed and undergoing treatment.

According to a press release issued by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division on Wednesday, the investigation clarified that no security forces were involved in Washim’s departure. Instead, the “abduction” was a surreptitious intervention organised by his own family.

Table: Key Details of the Investigation

Incident Component Details
Individual Involved Washim Ahmed Mukshan
Initial Report Kidnapping by 5-6 men posing as law enforcement
Actual Location Drug Rehabilitation Centre, Merajnagar
Reason for Admission Long-term substance addiction
Organiser of Admission Rakib (Washim’s younger brother)
Investigation Method CCTV analysis and information technology
Outcome Handed over to wife in presence of family

A Fractured Family Dynamic

The police inquiry revealed a complex family dispute lying beneath the surface. Washim had reportedly struggled with substance abuse for a significant period. His younger brother, Rakib, orchestrated the admission into the recovery centre with the consent of other family members but deliberately excluded Washim’s wife from the plan.

Investigators noted that the relationship between Sharmin and Washim’s blood relatives was deeply strained. The family feared that had they informed her of their intent to seek professional help for Washim, she would have obstructed the process. The 5:00 am timing was specifically chosen as a tactical move, as it is generally considered easier to transport a patient to a clinic during the quiet, early morning hours.

Following his recovery from the centre, Washim was officially handed back to his wife on Wednesday in the presence of his other relatives. The police have used this incident to remind the public of the importance of transparency in domestic matters to avoid unnecessary panics regarding national security forces.
