Following Bayern Munich’s confirmed triumph in the German Bundesliga, the focus of European football has shifted to the concluding stages of the other major domestic leagues. While Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) appear to be on the verge of securing their respective titles, the English Premier League remains the theatre of an intense, closely contested duel between Arsenal and Manchester City.
The battle for the English Premier League title has seen another shift in momentum. Arsenal have returned to the summit of the table, capitalising on a weekend where Manchester City were not involved in league action. Following their most recent fixture, Arsenal have accumulated 73 points from 34 matches.
Manchester City, having played 33 matches, remain on 70 points. The North London club’s recent victory was secured in a challenging encounter against Newcastle United. The decisive moment came from Eberechi Eze, whose solitary goal proved to be the difference, ensuring Arsenal took all three points to maintain pressure on the defending champions.
In Spain, FC Barcelona are finalising preparations for a title celebration. Their path was significantly smoothed following Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Real Betis. This result left the reigning champions, Real Madrid, with 74 points from 33 matches.
In contrast, Barcelona secured a 2-0 victory over Getafe, propelling them to 85 points from 33 matches. With only five matches remaining in the season, the 11-point gap presents a near-insurmountable challenge for Real Madrid. Barcelona require only two more victories to officially claim the La Liga trophy.
The situation in Italy and France reflects a similar trend of dominant leaders nearing the finish line:
Serie A: Inter Milan missed an opportunity to tighten their grip on the title following a draw against Torino. Despite this, they hold a commanding position with 79 points from 34 matches. Their nearest rivals, Napoli, currently sit 10 points behind after a 4-0 win over Cremonese. With four matches left, Napoli remain mathematically in contention, though Inter are heavy favourites.
Ligue 1: PSG have extended their lead following a 3-0 win over Angers, moving to 69 points. Their primary challengers, Lens, faltered in a dramatic 3-3 draw against Brest. After trailing 3-0, Lens managed a remarkable comeback to rescue a point, but they now sit six points behind the leaders with 63 points.
