A 19-year-old youth from Charbhadrasan Upazila in Faridpur has died after ingesting poison, unable to cope with the sudden death of his girlfriend.
The tragedy unfolded on Monday, 17 August, at his sister’s residence in the Kamalpur Chanmari area of Faridpur town. The deceased, identified as Tanvir Hossain, was the son of the late Md. Ashraf Hossain from Mofizuddin Khalasir Dangi village under Charbhadrasan.
According to family members and local police, Tanvir was deeply distressed upon receiving news that his girlfriend had suddenly suffered a fatal cardiac arrest. Overwhelmed by grief, he travelled directly to the home of his sister, Tanjila Akter, in the Kamalpur neighbourhood of Faridpur.
Distraught and in tears, Tanvir stepped out of his sister’s residence shortly after his arrival. While outside, he ingested a toxic substance before returning indoors. Moments later, he fell severely ill, displaying symptoms of acute poisoning. Sensing the gravity of his condition, relatives rushed him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for urgent medical intervention.
Due to the severity of his condition, attending physicians transferred him immediately to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Despite emergency treatment, Tanvir passed away in the ICU on Monday evening.
Following his death, Tanvir’s elder brother, Md. Saifur Rahman, accompanied by their mother, Chaleha Begum, filed an unnatural death case at the Kotwali Police Station.
Mahmudul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that an inquest has been completed. The body has been transferred to the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination, and further legal procedures regarding the case are currently underway.
