Millions of people across the world eagerly await the holy and revered month of Ramadan, and 2026 will be no exception. This sacred month is devoted to worship, seeking closeness to Allah, strengthening family bonds, and spreading love and compassion among people.
According to a report by Gulf News on Monday (18 August), astronomers suggest that Ramadan 2026 may begin on 17 February. In most Arab countries, the crescent moon may be sighted on the evening prior, marking the start of the month.
The formal declaration of Ramadan’s commencement will depend on moon sighting. Preparations for observing the Ramadan crescent usually take place on the 29th day of the month of Sha’ban, the month preceding Ramadan.

The Islamic calendar is primarily lunar, and each month begins and ends with the observation of a new crescent moon.
Lunar Calendar and Seasonal Variations
Since lunar months are shorter than solar months, the dates of Arabic months shift by 10 to 11 days each year in the Gregorian calendar. Consequently, Muslims experience Ramadan across different seasons—winter, monsoon, summer, autumn, and spring—over the years.
This celestial rhythm ensures that the spiritual benefits of Ramadan are felt throughout all seasons, giving believers a unique opportunity to engage in worship and reflection at varying times of the solar year.
