Today marks the 20th day of the sacred month of Ramadan, a date of profound significance in Islamic history. On this day, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) led the historic conquest of Makkah, an event that transformed the course of the Arabian Peninsula.

In the eighth year after the Hijrah, the Prophet (peace be upon him) assembled a force of approximately 10,000 Muslims and entered Makkah. Despite years of persecution, opposition, and conflict, this campaign was remarkably peaceful, with minimal bloodshed.

The roots of this conquest trace back to persistent hostility from the Quraysh, who opposed Islam from its earliest days. Following repeated persecution, the Prophet and his followers were compelled to migrate to Medina. From there, the Muslim community grew in strength and influence, consolidating their position even amid adversity.

A pivotal factor leading to the Makkah campaign was the violation of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. When the Quraysh breached this truce, the Prophet (peace be upon him) mobilised his forces. The campaign, launched in Ramadan of the eighth Hijri year, culminated on the 20th day with the peaceful conquest of Makkah.

Upon entering the city, the Prophet (peace be upon him) granted a general amnesty, demonstrating mercy and forgiveness on an unprecedented scale. This act of clemency has been remembered throughout history as a profound model of humanitarian values. The Prophet also removed 360 idols from the Kaaba and restored the message of monotheism, reaffirming the central tenets of Islam.
