The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier B has witnessed a remarkable display of individual brilliance, as two significant world records were shattered on a single day in Gaborone, Botswana. Botswana’s medium-pacer Nabil Master and Rwanda’s opening batsman Hamza Khan delivered record-breaking performances that have redefined the statistical landscape of Associate nations’ cricket.
In a clinical display of seam bowling against Mali, Botswana’s Nabil Master recorded the most economical six-wicket haul in the history of Men’s Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Master concluded his spell with extraordinary figures of 6 wickets for just 2 runs in 2.4 overs, including one maiden. This performance sets a new benchmark for the fewest runs conceded while taking a minimum of six wickets in a T20I match.
Prior to this achievement, the record for the most economical five-wicket haul was held by Singapore’s leg-spinner Harsha Bharadwaj, who claimed 5 wickets for 3 runs against Mongolia in September 2024. Master’s performance surpassed previous benchmarks for efficiency at the international level.

Master, who debuted in 2019, had a relatively quiet start to his international career, claiming only three wickets across his first three matches. However, his performance against Mali was defined by clinical precision. He claimed his six wickets in three distinct bursts, remarkably taking two wickets in consecutive deliveries on three separate occasions during the 8th and 10th overs. Mali was subsequently bowled out for a total of 25 runs in 9.4 overs. Botswana chased the target in just 2.2 overs without losing a wicket.
Simultaneously, Rwanda’s Hamza Khan produced a historic batting display against Ivory Coast. Opening the innings, Khan remained unbeaten on 164 runs off just 65 deliveries. This innings now stands as the highest individual score by a player from an Associate nation in Men’s T20Is.
Khan’s score eclipsed the previous Associate record held by Spain’s Mohammad Ihsan, who scored 160 against Croatia in December 2025. In the broader context of all T20Is—including Full Member nations—Khan’s 164 is the second-highest individual score ever recorded, trailing only the 172 runs scored by Australia’s Aaron Finch against Zimbabwe in 2018.
Table 2: Hamza Khan’s Match Statistics
| Category | Statistical Data |
| Player | Hamza Khan (Rwanda) |

| Runs Scored | 164* (Not Out) |
| Balls Faced | 65 |

Rwanda’s total of 288/2 set a massive target for Ivory Coast, who collapsed to 17 all out in 15.2 overs. This resulted in a 271-run victory for Rwanda, marking one of the largest margins of victory by runs in the history of the format. These two matches underscore the rapidly evolving competitive standards within the African sub-regional qualifiers.
