In a significant crackdown on illegal weaponry, the Pabna District Detective Branch (DB) has successfully apprehended a 32-year-old man and seized a substantial cache of firearms. The operation, conducted in the early hours of Monday, 20th April 2026, resulted in the recovery of multiple foreign-made revolvers and ammunition within the Pabna municipal area. This successful intervention highlights the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to curb the proliferation of illicit arms in the region.
Acting on precise intelligence, tactical teams from the Detective Branch launched simultaneous raids at two distinct locations within the Arifpur Hazirhat neighbourhood. The primary suspect, identified as Oli Hossain, son of Robbel Hossain, was taken into custody during the coordinated sweep.
During the search of the premises, officers discovered a lethal assortment of weapons concealed by the suspects. The haul included three high-calibre foreign revolvers, one locally manufactured “one-shutter” gun, and two rounds of live ammunition. According to police records, Oli Hossain is a known figure to the authorities, with a pre-existing criminal history involving narcotics offences.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Anwar Zahid convened a press conference at his office on Monday afternoon to detail the specifics of the arrest. He emphasised that the operation was part of a broader mandate to sanitise the district of illegal armaments ahead of upcoming regional events.

While Oli Hossain was successfully detained, his alleged accomplice, Shuvo Fakir (25), son of Saidul Islam Fakir, managed to evade capture. Police have launched a manhunt to locate Fakir, who is believed to be a key link in the local arms distribution network.
The Pabna District Police have opened an extensive investigation to trace the original source of the foreign-made revolvers. Initial findings suggest that these weapons may have been smuggled across the border intended for use by local criminal gangs or political enforcers. SP Anwar Zahid noted that the Detective Branch is currently interrogating the suspect to identify the financiers and suppliers behind this particular shipment.
“Our objective is not merely to arrest the foot soldiers but to dismantle the entire supply chain,” the SP remarked during the briefing. “The presence of foreign-manufactured revolvers in our municipality is a matter of grave concern, and we are working closely with national intelligence agencies to determine if this is linked to a larger syndicate.”
Following the completion of preliminary questioning, Oli Hossain is being processed for production before the Pabna District Court. The police have requested a remand to facilitate deeper interrogation regarding the whereabouts of the fugitive, Shuvo Fakir.
The successful recovery has been met with a sense of relief by the residents of the Arifpur area, who have recently reported an uptick in nocturnal criminal activity. As the second quarter of 2026 progresses, the Pabna police have vowed to maintain a “zero-tolerance” policy regarding illegal possession of firearms. Increased patrols and community-based policing initiatives are expected to be rolled out across the municipal wards to prevent further escalations of armed violence.
