The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has permanently expelled six of its local leaders in Sreepur, Gazipur, following a disruptive incident at a local high school. The disciplinary action was taken after the individuals reportedly vandalised an event marquee and harassed teaching staff because they had not been formally invited to a school farewell ceremony.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 19 April, at approximately 10:30 am at Bashbari Adarsha High School, located within the Gazipur Union of Sreepur Upazila. The school administration had organised a farewell programme for the departing Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees.
According to reports and local accounts, several local BNP leaders expressed grievances over not receiving an official invitation to the proceedings. This dissatisfaction escalated into physical disruption, where the event’s marquee (pandal) was vandalised, effectively halting the ceremony. Furthermore, the accused individuals were reported to have engaged in highly discourteous and unprofessional conduct towards the teachers present at the venue.
The misconduct was captured on video and subsequently circulated across various social media platforms. The footage, which depicted the harassment of educators, sparked significant public indignation and criticism among netizens. The rapid spread of the recording brought the matter to the immediate attention of the BNP’s central and regional high commands, prompting an internal investigation into the breach of party discipline.
On Monday, 20 April, a formal press release was issued, signed by Abdul Motaleb, the Convenor of the Sreepur Upazila BNP, and Khairul Kabir Mondal Azad, the Member Secretary. The notice confirmed the permanent expulsion of six individuals from all party positions and primary membership.
The press release stated:
“The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) remains committed to maintaining its party ideology, solidarity, and discipline. Based on specific allegations and evidentiary proof, it has been observed that several individuals were involved in the untoward incident at Bashbari Adarsha High School on 19 April and behaved discourteously towards teachers. As videos of the incident spread on social media, the party’s image has been tarnished.”
The statement further clarified that the actions of the accused were “contrary to the party’s ideals, goals, and interests,” and constituted a “severe breach of discipline.”
The following table provides the names and former designations of the individuals expelled from the Gazipur Union No. 2 unit of the BNP:
| Name of the Expelled Leader | Former Organisational Position | Action Taken |
| Md. Sarwar Awwal | Former General Secretary | Permanent Expulsion |

| Md. Arman Ali | Member | Permanent Expulsion |
| Md. Mahbub Alam | Member | Permanent Expulsion |

In accordance with the party’s constitution, the expulsion orders apply to all positions held within the Gazipur Union No. 2 branch, as well as their primary memberships. The directive explicitly mentioned that the order became effective immediately as of 20 April. This swift administrative response underscores the party’s stated policy of non-tolerance towards activities that disrupt social harmony or undermine the dignity of educational institutions and their staff.
