In a late-night operation, the Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 32 kilograms of venison from the Patakhali area in Khulna, believed to have been illegally obtained through deer poaching.

According to Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Coast Guard, the operation was conducted around 11:00 PM following a tip-off about illegal wildlife activity.

Upon arrival, the Coast Guard personnel discovered the venison in an abandoned state. It is believed that the poachers fled the scene after becoming aware of the Coast Guard’s presence.

“We acted promptly on the intelligence received and managed to recover the venison. Unfortunately, the suspects escaped before we could apprehend them,” said Lt. Commander Siam-ul-Haq.

The confiscated venison has since been handed over to the Bajbaja Forest Office for appropriate legal action under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of illegal poaching in the Sundarbans region, where deer are frequently targeted by poachers for their meat. Forest officials have reiterated their commitment to strengthening patrols and coordinating with enforcement agencies to prevent further wildlife crimes.
