A major road accident occurred along the Dhaka-Khulna Highway on Sunday, 31 May, when a passenger coach veered off the road and overturned into a wayside ditch in Faridpur district’s Nagarkanda Upazila. The transport accident resulted in injuries to twenty-three passengers.
The vehicle, operated by the “Al Borak” transport company, was travelling on its scheduled route from Dhaka to the southwestern city of Khulna. At approximately 11:00 am, immediately after crossing a bridge adjacent to the Jhaturdia Bazaar in the Kaichail Union, the driver lost control of the coach. The vehicle subsequently skewed off the highway tarmac, flipping over onto its left side before sliding into the roadside ditch.
Authorities estimated that between 30 and 35 commuters were inside the vehicle when the crash transpired. Upon being alerted to the incident, emergency response units from the Bhanga Highway Police Station and the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence swiftly arrived at the scene. Working in coordination with local volunteers, the rescue teams extracted the trapped passengers from the wreckage.
Emergency medical personnel assessed and categorized the passengers based on the severity of their injuries:
| Passenger Condition and Status | Number of Commuters | Medical Action and Facility |
| Sustained Serious Injuries | 4 | Admitted to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex |
| Sustained Minor Injuries | 19 | Administered first aid and discharged at the scene |
| Uninjured / Required No Treatment | 7 – 12 | Released by emergency personnel at the site |
| Fatalities Recorded | 0 | No deaths reported |
The identities and specific residential backgrounds of the injured victims have not yet been formally established by the local administration.
Md. Helaluddin, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Bhanga Highway Police Station, confirmed the details of the joint emergency operation. He noted that the timely intervention of the rescue teams ensured that all injured persons were promptly transported to the hospital.
The Officer-in-Charge verified that the accident did not cause prolonged traffic congestion, stating that vehicular movement on the high-speed corridor remains entirely undisrupted. Measures are currently underway to salvage the damaged coach using heavy machinery and tow it to the highway police precinct. A formal investigation is actively being conducted by investigators to pinpoint the exact technical or human failure that caused the crash, and legal protocols are being initiated accordingly.
