At least twelve individuals have sustained varying degrees of physical injuries following a violent clash between two opposing factions over the harvesting of mangoes from a disputed orchard. The civil disturbance, which was rooted in a long-standing property and land ownership disagreement, occurred on Tuesday afternoon, 2 June 2026, within the Monakasha-Chouka locality under the jurisdiction of the Shibganj Upazila in the northwestern frontier district of Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh.
According to local administrative sources and community residents, a severe territorial disagreement regarding the ownership of specific agricultural plots had been ongoing for an extended duration between a local resident identified as Mahidur Rahman and an opposing party leader named Mukul. The underlying friction escalated significantly on Tuesday afternoon when labourers and representatives from both factions concurrently arrived at the disputed location to harvest mature mangoes from the orchard.
What initially commenced as a heated verbal altercation regarding legitimate harvesting rights and boundary delineations rapidly deteriorated as tempers flared. Within a short duration, the confrontation turned violent as supporters, associates, and family members from both sides mobilised. The individuals quickly armed themselves with heavy wooden staff, bamboo sticks, and various traditional domestic weapons, engaging in a direct physical confrontation across the agricultural area.
The ensuing violent confrontation resulted in at least twelve people from both factions sustaining immediate physical trauma and injuries. Following the cessation of the active fighting, local villagers and eyewitnesses initiated an emergency rescue operation to assist the wounded individuals, transporting all twelve casualties to the Shibganj Upazila Health Complex for immediate medical evaluation and clinical treatment.
Upon admission, the attending medical officers administered emergency first aid and stabilized the patients. However, the duty physician subsequently determined that the clinical condition of two of the victims was highly critical due to the severity of the trauma inflicted by the domestic weapons. Following the administration of preliminary stabilizing procedures, the medical team promptly referred the two critically injured individuals to the tertiary-level Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for advanced surgical intervention and specialised care. The remaining ten injured individuals continue to receive standard medical monitoring and clinical treatment at the upazila health complex.
Upon receiving emergency notifications regarding the ongoing rural disturbance, a contingent of personnel from the Shibganj Police Station was rapidly deployed to the Monakasha-Chouka sector. The swift physical arrival of law enforcement units successfully suppressed the active hostilities, dispersed the gathered agitators, and restored public order across the immediate agricultural locality.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibganj Police Station, Motiur Rahman, formally confirmed the occurrence of the violent encounter and detailed the subsequent statutory actions initiated by the state. The police executive verified that law enforcement personnel have already detained two suspects and brought them to the police station for official interrogation and investigative questioning regarding their direct roles in the orchestration and execution of the violence.
Officer-in-Charge Motiur Rahman stated that the police administration is investigating the complete sequence of events with strict professional gravity. He further emphasised that formal legal proceedings, including the filing of official police reports, are actively being processed, and necessary statutory judicial actions will be rigorously pursued against all individuals found responsible for violating public peace and causing bodily harm.
